PORTFOLIO

My experience within the games industry has provided opportunities to work as a lead designer, as well as some additional roles, on a number of projects.

Please contact me if you have any questions about my projects or are interested in seeing additional work.

ARQUE SKIES

PC Game

In a beautiful 2D world of floating sky islands and rolling oceans of cloud, take command of a Cloudship and fly into Arque Skies!

Arque Skies is a project I developed as part of a seven person university team for our final year project. During the development of this arcade adventure game, I lead the design, QA, playtesting, writing and sound design. I also assisted in marketing the project, creating the Arque Skies' official website, as well as the pages on other hosting platforms, such as itch.io.

The specific elements of the game that I developed are:

  • Mechanic and system designs

  • Character, weapon, ship and economy designs

  • AI designs

  • Narrative

  • User playtesting

  • Quality assurance planning and testing

  • Sound designs

  • Marketing and website development

  • Management of the design documentation

Arque Skies has gone on to be selected in the student showcase at GCAP 2018, where myself and the team flew down to Melbourne to present the game to hundreds of developers from all over the Asia Pacific region.

TOASTER TOSS

Mobile Game

Bounce your way to happiness in a fun mobile game. Earn coins with each leap and work your way through a variety of items and areas.

The first project from Cedar Beast, the small studio I co-founded, Toaster Toss is a fun, bouncy mobile game. For the most part, my efforts were focused on being the lead designer for the project, however, I also led the QA and playtesting, as well as co-designing the UX.

While I'm not directly producing this project, as part of my role as a director of the studio, I took charge of contracting additional people as the project required them, managing the marketing for the studio and handling much of the general administration.

The specific elements of the game that I developed are:

  • Mechanic and system designs

  • Free to play economy and monetization designs

  • Character and level designs

  • Narrative

  • User playtesting

  • Quality assurance planning and testing

  • Assisted with UX designs

  • Marketing and website development

  • Management of the design documentation

THE LINES OF HISTORY

Card Game

I was presented with a project brief, outlining the need to educate audiences on the use of timelines in a historical context. The two main outcomes of the brief were to present the concept of timeline manipulation in a more straightforward manner and to increase the retention of historical facts.

Unlike previous projects, this one was created through the effort of completely solo development. The focus of the project was to create a design document that outlined the main mechanics and style of the game, while pointing out areas where learning objectives were met.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to see the supplementary documentation, such as research overviews and card details.
